River Wissey

The River Wissey is navigable from it's confluence with the Great Ouse to the limit of navigation at Stoke Ferry, a distance of about 11 miles. Boaters should be aware that there aren't many public moorings on the river so should plan accordingly.

Getting dark

There are very few public moorings on the Wissey. We got caught out, as our guide said there was a mooring at the head of the navigation. Our guide was out of date and it no longer exists! We ended up having to return to the Ouse to find a vacant mooring. This was our first experience of boating at night, not as bad as we imagined it to be. More pictures can be found in the photo gallery section.

Still water

The Wissey is a very pretty little river.

Overgrown banks

The overgrown banks make it very difficult to find an 'off piste' mooring.

Pipes

Carbon dioxide produced during the production of sugar is fed to nearby greenhouses, where it is used to help grow tomatoes. An innovative way to reduce CO2 emmisions.
