Cassie being craned into the water at the start of the 2008 season. Many thanks to Andy & Lucy Tilbury for taking this photo.
Ambling off to open the lock at hemingford on a beautiful autumn evening.
No gallery would be complete without the obligatory arty shot.
The water wheel at Brampton Mill.
Cassie hiding in the undergrowth at Brampton. An early shot prior to revarnishing.
Heading towards Hemingford on a fine autumn's day.
A pleasant evening was spent sitting outside eating our dinner and watching the rain. There was a row of trees behind us that kept us completely dry, despite the fairly heavy downpour. We were then treated to this double rainbow.
This shot was taken about four in the morning, just downstream of Buckden, when our dog decided he needed a wee! Clothes on, canopy down, life is like a dream! It was a beautiful still morning though.
The end-of-season barbeque at our marina. A jolly good time was had by all.
Jones' Boatyard under water after flooding in February 2009. They really do look after the boats here during adverse weather.
Heading home towards St Ives on a very pleasant evening. The Environment Agency have made a fantastic job of the bank on the right.
Hemingford Village Mooring. This is always a polpular spot on a hot day, as there's plenty of shade along here. Not many people venture out late in the season though, so we had it all to ourselves!
Houghton Island in May, before the banks were cut. It was very overgrown, but very pleasant.
Here's another shot taken later in the season. Non boaty people often say to us, boating's just like caravaning on the water. I'd say to them, how many caravan site like this have you been to? Pootling along at 5mph on the water with a gin and tonic is a lot more relaxing than doing 5mph on the M25 towing a caravan. With a boat the journey is part of the holiday.
The best mooring spot on Houghton Island, under the tree.
The view to stern leaving St Ives heading upstream.
Returning back to the marina one Sunday evening we were confronted with this sight! Someone had managed to shear the pinions on both lock gates. So nobody was going anywhere. Despite the fact that people had to work the following day, and some had flights they were going to miss, everyone remained cheerful, just laughed about it and offered to share food. That wouldn't happen in a car! The lock was repaired the following afternoon.
There's a garden next to the mooring at Hemingford that's often open to the public with some amazing topiary on show.
This is the view on the upstream approach to St Ives. Always a popular spot with people.
Taken somewhere on the Great Ouse, I can't remember where...
