So far so good
One last shot of Cassie on dry land, the day before she was craned back in. So far we've been really impressed with the Poliglow, as any dirt or bird poo wipes straight off.
Back covers
New back covers, cut from 12mm ply. A vast improvement on the formica covered ply they replaced. The gas valve location marker can be seen above.
More Traffolyte
Close-up of one of the Traffolyte markers, engraved at very reasonable cost by John Walton Engraving (see links section). We think these look far better than the usual brass or printed plastic affairs. The clean unfussy look really suits the boat. Just need to clean up the mastic tape around the edge.
Back in the water!
Cassie back on her mooring at last, resplendent in her new beige deck livery. We've obviously been listening to too much Wogan, and have become TOGS, but she is 40 after all! Just need to put the handrails and mast back on, after re-sealing all the deck fittings with mastic tape. We've also got a new spotlight to fit.
She runs
No real problems getting her to start after the winter lay-up. Fitted a new distributor cap and rotor arm. She's sounding really sweet now. Just need to solve the mystery of the over-reading tacho. Her new stern-light can be seen in operation. We still have to go over the grey strip of deck with beige paint.
Rubber
The treads for the side steps were cut from a Tesco value car mat! This cost the princely sum of £1.97 and we've still got enough left for another 4. The more patient half had to trim away the ridges, where the rubber goes under the metal, to ensure a good seal. Can't wait to get everything rechromed...
Kushti cushions
Marina's cracking on a-pace with the upholstery. I think this will look great with against the woodwork and should be much more comfy too. We've used 6" foam instead of the original 5" for the 'v' berths.
Very silly
Not one of Mr Freeman's better ideas! This shows seat foam excavated for the carb cover. Not the most comfortable thing in the world to sit on for any length of time. Numb bum here we come!
Nice!
We're really pleased with the way the cockpit's shaping up. Need to find a new helm seat pedestal, not easy on a budget. We're hoping to pick up a sheet of Treadmaster diamond pattern flooring at the Ipswich Boat Jumble later this month.
Wiring cupboard
The partial rewire is almost finished. Just need to wire up the cockpit lights. I'll probably add another bus-bar to feed the new fuse box at a later date. Have managed to re-calibrate the tacho and it's now working perfectly.
Test run
Taking Cassie for a 45 minute test run. Everything seems to be in order. It was great to be out on the river again, even if was only a short trip. On the right is Hemingford Meadow, where this year's IWA Festival will take place in August. I don't think the scene will be quite so tranquil then!
More cushions
Can't wait to see these on the boat. I think she'll look really plush. You can see the v-berth infill panel on the left - something else to varnish!
It's curtains for Cassie!
All the curtains and upholstery are now finished and she looks great. The pimpled surface you can see is a layer of 5mm polystyrene insulation material.
Plush
Cassie's new forward berth. We've made a removable infill panel to turn the 'v' berths into a double bed. The original 5 inch foam ha been replaced with 6 inch, and very comfy it is too! We think the colour looks really classy against the woodwork.
Handrails on
The handrails refitted at last. The leaky deck fittings have been sealed with mastic tape.
